Choose the repeated action
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, announced in September 2026, adds a customizable action button. Meta describes the new button as a customizable shortcut to Meta AI; consult the controls guide for your exact frame and software version. An additional control is useful only when you can distinguish its job from the others. Begin with the action you repeatedly need and check the assignments your setup actually offers. Do not choose a shortcut solely because it is the newest option in the menu.
Make the mapping easy to recall
Select one supported assignment and leave it in place long enough to learn it. Record the choice in a brief setup note if you are likely to forget. Practice initiating the action, recognizing its feedback and ending it. Then put the glasses down and repeat the sequence later without the settings screen open. If you keep searching for the right control, simplify the arrangement before adding another feature to the routine.
Check ordinary frame handling
Put the glasses on, remove them and settle them as you normally would. Notice where your fingers land relative to each control. Practice in a setting where an unintended command is harmless and obvious. This is a suggested familiarization exercise, not a claim that the new button causes accidental activation. It gives you a way to examine your own habits before deciding whether the assignment genuinely reduces effort.
Reassess after a real change
A different phone setup, new firmware behavior or a change in your everyday tasks can justify revisiting the assignment. Keep the old and new choices identifiable so troubleshooting remains manageable. Evaluate the shortcut by whether it saves attention during a repeated task, including recovery when you press the wrong control. The point of a configurable button is not to maximize the number of commands you remember. It is to make one worthwhile action accessible enough that the glasses are easier to live with.
